Camilla, Georgia - An exciting leap forward for education was taken when Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors selected three recipients of the Agricultural and Environmental Education Grant at the monthly District meeting.

On February 1, researchers at the Jones Center at Ichauway and Auburn University premiered a short film entitled “Discovering the Value of Agricultural Wetlands” at the Crossroads Facility at the Jones Center at Ichauway in Newton, Georgia. The film, produced by Motion House Media, highlights the ecological value of wetlands located within agricultural fields.

United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) South Region Outreach Coordinator Charlie Grace has invited Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District (the District) Soil Health Coordinator Taylor Sinquefield to join the Georgia State Outreach Advisory Board.

On March 5, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District (FRSWCD) in partnership with Golden Peanut Company held a Soil Health Field Day on Dutch Ford Farm in Metter, Georgia.

The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) provides students with opportunities to pursue agriculture-related courses of study. For the 2024 cycle, GFA is offering $65,000 in scholarships. These applications are due March 1, 2024.

The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is modifying the 2012 agricultural permitting suspension in Southwest Georgia to allow new and modified surface water withdrawal permits in the Suwannee and Ochlockonee portions of the suspension area.

This sign-up that concludes on November 17, 2023, will utilize 2018 Farm Bill and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding.

Rudolph, for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Georgia, today announced a sign-up for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) for fiscal year 2024. To be considered for the upcoming fiscal year’s funding pool, applications must be submitted by October 6, 2023.
