The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District (FRSWCD) is accepting applications for the position of Feral Swine Coordinator. The Feral Swine Coordinator will support the District program staff with outreach, training, and other program needs through the Albany Area Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Project. This position reports directly to the executive director of FRSWCD.
Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) has opened up applications to their annual scholarship. Every year, GACD awards one $1,000 scholarship to encourage study and careers in soil and water conservation. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION SUBMISSION IS DECEMBER 31, 2024.
ATHENS, GA, October 1, 2024 — State Conservationist Terrance O. Rudolph of the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announces a Fiscal Year 2025 statewide federal assistance opportunity for agricultural and forest producers, through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). This sign-up that concludes on November 15, 2024, will utilize 2018 Farm Bill and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding.
On June 25th, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District’s Taylor Sinquefield and Abby Bodiford spoke to 134 4-H members about the importance of soil health in relation to water conservation at the 17th annual 4-H2O event.
Federal, state and local stakeholders convened on March 27 to address the growing issue of, and innovative solutions to address, feral swine in Georgia. The event was hosted by the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District (the District) and held at the Jones Center at Ichauway in Newton, Georgia.
On May 7, the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District and USDA-NRCS hosted a signing ceremony for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program at Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center in Columbus, Georgia. USDA-NRCS and District leaders gathered to mark the beginning of the Flint District’s national RCPP initiative for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin, which spans Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack formally announced project selections for the new USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) on Wednesday, January 14. The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District’s national and state projects are among the final projects selected for funding. The District looks forward to a collaborative effort among the three states of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia to conserve our shared natural resources within the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin for the national RCPP project. The state project will enhance ongoing efforts in the Lower Flint River Basin to optimize irrigation water management and agricultural water conservation.
